Mr. McKayasked the Minister of Education what reply she has sent to the telegram from the Northumberland County Association of the National Union of Teachers, representing 1,600 members, protesting against the increased superannuation contribution, and to the petition signed by 20 teachers attached to St. Columba's primary and secondary modern schools at Wallsend; and whether she will make a statement.

§ 59. Mr. Peter Freemanasked the Minister of Education when the fund for teachers' superannuation was founded; what was the amount; what contributions have been made by Her Majesty's Government; and to what extent it has been affected by the devaluation of the f since its inception.
§ Miss HorsbrughThe Act of 1925, which is the principal Act governing the teachers' superannuation scheme, does not provide for funding the contributions payable in respect of teachers, but for an account to be kept of all revenue and expenditure under the Superannuation Acts. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the last report on the working of the account made by the Government Actuary.
