HC Deb 16 June 1954 vol 528 cc149-50W
Sir W. Smithers

asked the Minister of Agriculture what provision is made in the Potato Marketing Scheme, 1933, for farmers who grew no potatoes in 1953 or 1954, to grow potatoes in future years.

Sir T. Dugdale

The Potato Marketing Scheme, 1933, was suspended in 1939, and it has been revived only to the extent necessary to enable the Potato Marketing Board to put proposals for a revised scheme before producers. The Board have not yet circulated their proposals to producers and it is not yet possible to say what provisions the revised scheme will contain. Any revised scheme approved by producers will be submitted to my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland, and myself in due course, when it will be considered in accordance with the procedure laid down in the Agricultural Marketing Acts.
