HC Deb 16 June 1954 vol 528 c150W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he will make a statement regarding the campaign to be carried out this year against the Colorado beetle.

Sir T. Dugdale

Co-operation continues with the European Plant Protection Organisation and its member Governments. Spraying of potato crops in parts of Kent, Surrey, and Essex has begun, and it is expected that a total of 20,000 acres will be treated. This is a precaution against direct invasion during the period when Colorado beetles are active in Western Europe.

In addition, measures against the introduction of beetles on imported vegetables, fruit, and plants are being continued.
