12. Mr. Hoy

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on what date he lodged his protest with Saudi Arabia against their shipping agreement with Mr. Socrates Onassis; if the agreement has now been finally settled; and if he has received a reply to his protest.

On 24th June my right hon. Friend the Foreign Secretary expressed to the Saudi Ambassador his grave concern at this agreement. He has not yet had a reply.

The text of the agreement was published on 7th June in Jedda by the Saudi authorities and I presume that it was intended to be final. No doubt it could be modified by the parties concerned if they so wished.
