HC Deb 28 July 1954 vol 531 cc43-4W
16. Lieut.-Colonel Lipton

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs from what date it has been arranged that occupation costs shall no longer be charged to the Federal German Government; and what additional expense will then fall upon the British taxpayer.

Mr. Dodds-Parker

The Federal German Government will continue to meet occupation costs up to an average monthly maximum of 600 million Deutchmarks until 30th September, 1954. Arrangements, made in 1953 to ensure that the costs of our troops in Germany would be covered from the end of the occupation period, have now been extended to cover the period up to 31st December, 1954. The question of support costs after that date will be the subject of further negotiations.
