HC Deb 26 January 1954 vol 522 c218W
86. Mr. Boardman

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware of the inconvenience being caused in the Manchester district due to the shortage of sixpences and shillings; and if he will take steps to remedy this position.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The hon. Member was good enough to write to me about this, and I have looked into the matter and written to him. Coin is issued through the banks, and no specific complaint with respect to Manchester has been received from them. However, in addition to 63 million shillings and 63 million sixpences issued generally by the Mint in 1953, a further 36 million shillings and sixpences will be issued during the present quarter.
