HC Deb 26 January 1954 vol 522 c218W
85. Mr. Murray

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that the present tax of 2s. 6d. per gallon on diesel fuel-oil is causing great concern to a number of bus companies and that there is danger of the public being asked to pay increased fares unless he can see his way to give a substantial reduction in the near future; and whether he will give this matter his consideration with the view of assisting the travelling public.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I have received representations in the sense of the first part of this Question. In reply to the second part, I would refer the hon. Member to the answer which I gave to the hon. Member for Newport (Mr. Peter Freeman) on 21st January.
