HC Deb 18 February 1954 vol 523 c232W
Commander Maitland

asked the Minister of Agriculture what representations were made to him by the National Farmers'Union to import a reserve of cereals before the date of derationing animal feedingstuffs as a safeguard against shortage and a rise in price; and whether the amount actually imported was greater or less than the reserve asked for.

Sir T. Dugdale

I received representations from several quarters that a very large reserve of feedingstuffs should be built up before derationing and a number of different figures were mentioned. The Government considered that the very much smaller stocks held by the Ministry of Food would provide an adequate reserve.
