§ Miss HorsbrughDuring the educational year 1952–53 258 children left grammar schools wholly maintained by the Staffordshire local education authority before reaching their 16th birthday. The comparable figures for 1951–52 and 1950–51 were 249 and 287 respectively.
164WAs regards the second part of the Question, the numbers of children on the registers of these schools who were aged in January, 1952, and 17 in January, 1953, were 666 and 371, or 48.6 per cent. and 27.1 per cent. respectively of the number aged 13 in January, 1949. The numbers aged 16 in January, 1951, and in January, 1952, were 675 and 325, or 46.6 per cent. and 22.4 per cent. respectively of the number aged 13 in January, 1948.

§ Miss HorsbrughIn January, 1953, of the 13-year-old children on the registers of secondary schools maintained by the Staffordshire local education authority 8,622 were in secondary modern, 1,635 in secondary grammar, 161 in secondary technical and none in comprehensive schools. These figures do not include Staffordshire childrenattending schools elsewhere.
