§ Miss HorsbrughIn January, 1953, the number of classes in maintained secondary modern schools with over 40 pupils on roll was 2,438 of which 25 had over 50 pupils. The corresponding figures formaintained and assisted secondary grammar schools were 77 and 10. Some of these apparently large classes were assembled only for registration purposes.
