§ Mr. Awberyasked the Minister of Labour how many medical centres have been established in our docks; how many accidents have been dealt with; and how far satisfactory progress is being made in the development of the welfare schemes for our ports.
§ Mr. WatkinsonThe National Dock Labour Board now have in operation 44 medical centres and seven first-aid rooms. During 1953, 207,568 cases, largely resulting from accidents, were dealt with. Of those treated, 143,826 were dock workers and 63,742 other persons working in port areas. The National Dock Labour Board continue to expand their various welfare schemes for dock workers and details of the progress made appear in the Board's 77W annual reports. I am sending the hon.
