HC Deb 21 December 1954 vol 535 c255W
69. Mr. Ian Harvey

asked the Secretary of State for War what action he is taking to safeguard the future of those officers, warrant officers and non-commissioned officers of the Royal Artillery whose present employment will be terminated as a result of the disbandment of Anti-Aircraft Command.

Mr. F. Maclean

My right hon. Friend is most anxious that this reorganisation should be carried out with the least possible effect on the Royal Regiment of Artillery as a whole. We are examining urgently how this can best be done and, as my right hon. Friend has said, details will be announced as soon as possible.

In the Territorial Army reorganisation, it is our aim so far as possible to keep men of the same unit together. In considering which units to retain we shall take special account of those which have a high proportion of volunteers. Where it is found necessary to disband units, all volunteers will be given an opportunity to transfer to other units, since we do not want to lose a single volunteer if we can avoid it.
