HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 cc222-3W
94. Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Supply the system of co-operation between his Department, the Royal Air Force and the aircraft manufacturers in regard to the delivery of tested aircraft for service in the Royal Air Force; and what consultations took place in the case of the swept-wing fighter the Super-marine Swift.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

I would ask my hon. Friend to await the answer to be give by the Prime Minister tomorrow with regard to the general system for the development of new aircraft. In the case of the Swift, there has been continuous consultation between the manufacturers and the Ministries concerned.

95. Mr. Langford-Holt

asked the Minister of Supply what stage of evaluation has been reached in regard to the swept-wing fighter aircraft, the Super-marine Swift.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

The Mark 1 and Mark 2 Swift have been cleared for introduction into service subject to certain limitations. Development of the later Marks of Swift is continuing, but the position generally is under review.
