HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 c223W
93. Mr. Kenyon

asked the Minister of Supply why his Department has objected to the building of a bungalow in Lea Road, Whittle-le-Woods, Chorley; and if he will now withdraw the opposition so that the bungalow can be built.

Mr. Selwyn Lloyd

My advice to the local planning authority to refuse this application was based on the ground of danger to the bungalow and its occupants in the event of an explosion at the Royal Ordnance Factory. The strictest safety precautions are taken at the factory and I regard the likelihood of an explosion as extremely remote. Nevertheless, I feel bound to take account of the possibility in the advice which I offer in particular cases.
