HC Deb 20 December 1954 vol 535 cc241-2W
Sir A. Bossom

asked the Minister of Agriculture how his forecasts of the sugar-beet crop are made.

Mr. Amory

The forecasts published by my Department are made by the British Sugar Corporation's field staff in August and revised monthly as the season progresses. At the end of the season they are checked against the factories' records of the tonnage of roots delivered to them. The total production of sugar from the crop is calculated by the Corporation.
