Mr. Hector Hughesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer when the application for the office of Steward of Her Majesty's Chiltern Hundreds was received by Her Majesty's Government from the previous hon. Member for the 130W county of Inverness; when the said application was accepted by Her Majesty's Government; and when that acceptance appeared in the London Gazette.
§ Mr. H. BrookeThe application was received by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor on Thursday morning, 2nd December; the Warrant of Appointment was executed the same morning; and an announcement appeared in the London Gazette on Friday, 3rd December. According to the customary procedure, as soon as the Warrant was executed, letters were dispatched by hand to Mr. Speaker's Secretary and to the Government, Opposition and Liberal Chief Whips informing them of the appointment.
