HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 c130W
124. Colonel Crosthwaite-Eyre

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many Statutory Instruments were in force in July, 1945, and July, 1951, respectively; and how many of those have now been withdrawn.

Mr. H. Brooke

There are no records which disclose the number of Instruments in operation at any one time in 1945. There were in operation on 1st July, 1951, about 7,689 made under permanent legislation, and 783 made under emergency legislation. I am afraid that to ascertain precisely how many of these have since been revoked or become spent would involve disproportionate work and cost.
