HC Deb 14 December 1954 vol 535 c128W
Mr. Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he has considered the letter from the hon. Member for West Ham, North: and whether, in view of the evidence therein produced, showing the diminishing returns to the Treasury of the present discriminatory 10 per cent. Pool Betting Duty and its adverse effects on greyhound racing, he will now rectify this injustice by either abolishing this tax altogether or placing all types of betting duty on the same level.

Mr. H. Brooke

I have seen the letter which the hon. Member recently sent to my right hon. Friend. It would not be appropriate for me to comment on his suggestion for changes in taxation.
