§ 75. Mr. G. Williamsasked the Minister of Agriculture if he will give an estimate as to when the continuance of the present rate of increased pig production will make this country largely self-supporting so far as pork and bacon are concerned.
Mr. AmoryIn order to make the estimate for which my hon. Friend asks, it would be necessary to make assumptions about a number of matters, such as the future demand and supply of meat and the costs of production, prices, capacity of curing factories and other matters. In the circumstances, any estimate which I could give would be too speculative to be of any value.
