HC Deb 26 November 1953 vol 521 cc70-1W
76. Mr. Elwyn Jones

asked the Minister of Labour for what reasons provision for the compulsory supply of suitable leggings, with spats to protect the legs and feet from the spilling of molten metal, was omitted from the Iron and Steel Foundries Regulations, 1953, Article 8, in view of the fact that such provision was included in the draft regulations and has been recommended by factory inspectors.

Sir W. Monckton

The provision in question was discussed with both sides of industry and with their concurrence was omitted from the revised Iron and Steel Foundries Regulations to enable them to give further consideration to it.

Joint discussions between the employers' organisations and the trade unions are taking place and it is hoped that a satisfactory understanding will be reached.
