HC Deb 16 November 1953 vol 520 cc116-7W
66. Mr. Noel-Baker

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will make a further statement about the evacuation of Chinese Nationalist forces from Burma, in accordance with the resolution adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations Organisation eight months ago.

Mr. Nutting

Since my statement in the debate on the Address on 5th November, evacuation began on 7th November, but was suspended the following day because the Government of Burma complained that Shans of Burmese nationality were being included among those evacuated. My latest information is that movement began again on 13th November. So far some 500 evacuees have crossed into Thailand, and the majority have already left by air for Formosa.
