HC Deb 12 November 1953 vol 520 c89W
140. Mr. Dudley Williams

asked the Minister of Education if her attention has been drawn to the shortage of teachers in secondary grammar schools; and what action she is taking to remedy this.

Miss Horsbrugh

There is at present no general shortage of teachers for secondary grammar schools, though difficulties are being experienced in recruiting enough suitably qualified graduate teachers of mathematics and science. I have asked the National Advisory Council for the Training and Supply of Teachers to keep under review the requirements for particular types of teacher within the total and to make recommendations to me from time to time, and I am expecting advice from them very shortly on graduate teachers of mathematics and science.
