§ 106. Sir H. Williamsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why a flashing police notice about a cab rank has been placed in Thirleby Road, Westminster, adjoining the sign which indicated that this place was reserved for a cab rank on 1st March, 1922; whether he is aware that for many years no cabs have occupied this rank, which has been used as an addition to the authorised parking place; and whether he will abolish this cab rank so that it can remain as an addition to the authorised parking place.
§ Sir D. Maxwell FyfeI am informed by the Commissioner of Police that this rank has not been used by cabs because it is constantly obstructed by private cars. The sign was placed there as an experiment in order to ascertain if cabs would make use of the rank if it was kept clear of cars. The experiment is for one month, which will expire on 17th November, when a decision on the retention of the rank will be taken.
