§ 44. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the pulmonary tuberculosis mortality rate for Glasgow and for 125W Scotland, excluding Glasgow, at the nearest convenient date.
Commander GalbraithIn 1952, the death rate from respiratory tuberculosis was 49 per 100,000 population for Glasgow, and 22 for the rest of Scotland excluding Glasgow.
§ 45. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland the number of cases of pulmonary tuberculosis reported last year in the male and female age groups 18–25 and 26–35, respectively, for Glasgow and for Scotland, excluding Glasgow.
Commander GalbraithNotifications of respiratory tuberculosis were as follows:
PROVISIONAL FIGURES FOR 1952 Age Glasgow Rest of Scotland M F M F 15–24 … 275 458 605 1,048 25–34 … 215 245 521 625
§ 46. Mr. Rankinasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many beds are at present at the disposal of the Western Regional Board for the treatment of tuberculosis; and what is the total number required.
Commander GalbraithAt the end of 1952 there were in the Western region 3,303 staffed beds for respiratory tuberculosis. More beds could have been brought into use had there been nurses available to staff them. The waiting list for sanatorium treatment in the region at 28th February was 1,230. I am advised that half this number of additional beds would enable the waiting list to be cleared quite quickly.
