asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will make a further statement about the fiduciary note issue.

Mr. Maudling

Yes. To provide for the usual seasonal increase in the demand for notes the Treasury has authorised an increase of £50 million in the fiduciary note issue with effect from 24th March. This brings the total fiduciary issue up to £1,550 million. The Treasury Minute will be laid before Parliament.
