HC Deb 24 March 1953 vol 513 c78W
Sir W. Darling

asked the Secretary of State for War the estimated capital expenditure in his Department on Scotland in 1953–54; and what are the main projects.

Mr. J. R. H. Hutchison

The estimated capital expenditure by the War Department in Scotland in 1953–54 is some £1,658,000. Of this, about £958,000 has been allocated to the Regular Army and £700,000 to the Territorial Army. These figures include married quarters built under the Armed Forces (Housing) Loan but exclude maintenance. The main projects are anti-aircraft gun sites, the reconstruction and extension of an Ordnance Depot begun in 1952, the provision of new accommodation begun in 1951 to replace hutting for a headquarters, married quarters for officers and other ranks, and Territorial Army centres.
