asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer the total amount of the loans made during 1952–53 under Section 4 of the Distribution of Industry Act, 1945, to firms in the North-East Development Area.

During the financial year 1952–53 to date loans amounting to £151,265 have been made to five companies in the North-East Development Area.
