HC Deb 10 March 1953 vol 512 c93W
52. Mr. G. Wilson

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, under his regulations, members of the boards of nationalised industries are assessable for income tax on sums paid to them for expenses of attending meetings of their boards.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Yes.

61. Lieut.-Colonel Schofield

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether his regulations provide for payments made by employers to subordinate employees of sums not exceeding £2 per employee, to mark the occasion of the Coronation, to be subject to Income Tax; and whether he will arrange for concessionary treatment so that such sums are not taxed.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Under Income Tax law payments of this sort, like payments at Christmas, are subject to Income Tax.
