HC Deb 05 March 1953 vol 512 c67W
79. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the discontent amongst members of the Civil Defence force in Scotland caused by the high prices which they have to pay for equipment of which he has been given details; if he will take steps to have these prices moderated; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. J. Stuart

No. Members of the Civil Defence Corps are not required to pay for any equipment issued to them. Training equipment is supplied on free loan to the responsible local authorities and it is available for purchase by industrial and commercial firms who have formed industrial Civil Defence units. The expenditure incurred may be expected to be admitted as a deduction in computing trading profits for Income Tax purposes.
