HC Deb 29 June 1953 vol 517 c4W
40. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Food why he has agreed to pay 1½d. per 1b. more for New Zealand butter and ¾d. per 1b. more for cheese for the 1953–54 season; and what steps he is taking to prevent a higher charge being placed upon the retail prices of these commodities when they are sold in this country.

Dr. Hill

The increased prices we are paying to New Zealand are in our view fair and reasonable in relation to world prices. There will be no immediate effect on retail prices.
