HC Deb 29 July 1953 vol 518 cc173-4W
Mr. Driberg

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air if he is aware that a number of cadets recently had to sit for examinations for which they had prepared insufficiently, because they had been assured by their commanding officer that, in consideration of the fact that they were taking part in the Coronation procession, they were to be excused these examinations and granted commissions automatically, and that several consequently failed to pass; and if he will take steps to remedy this injustice.

Mr. Ward

The 12 cadets concerned will be offered commissions without loss of seniority. The examination marks of the cadets will not be entered in their personal records, and any future decisions about their careers will be taken without reference to the examination in question.
