HC Deb 23 July 1953 vol 518 c72W
Mr. Hale

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he is now in a position to make an announcement as to the provision of a subsidy on posho in Kenya.

Mr. Lyttelton

The Kenya Government do not propose to subsidise the price of posho which has remained steady since August last year. The relationship of wages to cost of living is however of current concern to the Kenya Government and in addition to the standing machinery whereby minimum wages in the towns are fixed from time to time by the Governor-in-Council, on the advice of a Board containing African representatives, the whole problem of African wages is under present review.
