HC Deb 23 July 1953 vol 518 c60W
Mr. Peter Freeman

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will increase the maximum amount allowed for annuity that may be purchased from the Post Office from the present figure of £300, in view of the increased cost of living since this amount was first fixed.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

Government annuities in excess of £300 per annum can be purchased from the National Debt Office and, so far as I am aware, there is no general demand for an increase in the Post Office limit. Any such change would, of course, require legislation.
