asked the Minister of Education whether she can now say what is the fall in the demand for school meals since charges were made in Leicester and 184W throughout the country; and if she will make a statement thereon.

The only figures I can give relate to June, 1953, as compared with June, 1952. On a day in June, 1953, 12,604 children in maintained and assisted schools in Leicester were having dinners. On a day in June, 1952, the figure was 12,321. Over the country as a whole the figures were 2,509,786 and 2,757,608.
