HC Deb 20 January 1953 vol 510 c1W
16. Mr. Roy Jenkins

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, following upon the decisions of the Commonwealth Economic Conference, he will introduce over the export of capital from the United Kingdom to the rest of the sterling area a control designed to see that such capital is used only for projects in the interests of the sterling area as a whole.

Mr. R. A. Butler

No. The undertaking to the Commonwealth Economic Conference, to which the hon. Member refers, related to the provision of additional capital for development in the Commonwealth. Her Majesty Government do not intend to place new restrictions upon existing facilities for raising capital by the Commonwealth in the United Kingdom.
