§ Mr. Russellasked the Minister of Transport the relative merits of sand and gravel for making icy road surfaces less slippery; the comparative cost of these two materials; and their effect on rubber tyres.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydExperiments show that sharp sand and sharp small gravel are equally effective for the treatment of icy roads. Costs vary in different parts of the country, but generally sand is the cheaper of the two. Tyres are liable to be damaged by large gravel, but are not appreciably affected by sand or small gravel.
