HC Deb 23 February 1953 vol 511 c192W
Mr. Bossom

asked the Minister of Agriculture what further precautions are being taken this year for preventing fowl pest developing again.

Sir T. Dugdale

The main defence against the spread of the disease continues to be the prompt reporting of suspected cases so that infection can be rapidly eliminated by the slaughter of diseased and suspected birds. The vital importance of this and of the need for strict compliance with my Department's Regulations restricting movements of poultry has been emphasised in recent publicity, and local authorities have been asked to do all they can to see that these rules are scrupulously observed.
