HC Deb 18 February 1953 vol 511 c132W
52. Mr. Grimond

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that acts of violence have been committed by the Government of Kenya, or its representatives, upon Africans in Kenya; how many of those acts have resulted in death; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Lyttelton

There have been allegations of maltreatment of persons by the authorities in Kenya, but no evidence has so far been produced which would make it possible to take action on any of the alleged incidents. The Governor and I are, however, determined to do all possible to prevent such excesses and to deal with them if the allegations are substantiated. The Governor has recently issued a directive making this clear.
