HC Deb 12 February 1953 vol 511 c62W
83. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will make a statement on the results of his inquiry into alleged malpractices at an examination conducted by the Metropolitan Police Force.

Sir. D. Maxwell Fyfe

I am informed by the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that he is having an inquiry made into allegations that certain police officers who sat for the recent examination for promotion from constable to sergeant had prior knowledge of the questions. This inquiry is not yet complete, but on the information so far available the Commissioner has decided that, in fairness to all concerned, there is no alternative to the holding of a fresh examination.
