HC Deb 11 February 1953 vol 511 cc31-2W
52. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Food approximately how much extra sugar has been made available for the manufacture of confectionery and chocolates, respectively, to meet the extra demand arising from the withdrawal of sweets rationing; and to what extent the end of sweets rationing has prevented an increased allowance of sugar for household purposes.

Major Lloyd George

About 9,000 tons for sweets and chocolates together. This quantity was saved from last year's manufacturing allocations as a whole, and has no relation to the sugar available for household purposes.
