HC Deb 11 February 1953 vol 511 cc29-30W
8. Mr. Philips Price

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he will consider reducing the British Forces in the Suez Canal zone to the level they were at before the state of tension with Egypt, in the autumn of 1951, as evidence of good will on our part.

Mr. Nutting

It is our policy to arrive at a general settlement of the whole question of defence by negotiation with the Egyptian Government. One of the major items that will have to be considered as part of such a settlement will be the withdrawal of British troops from the Canal Zone.
