HC Deb 04 February 1953 vol 510 c209W
74. Mr. H. Johnson

asked the Assistant Postmaster-General whether he is aware that there is no afternoon delivery of mail in Brighton, whereas before the war mail was delivered five times per day; that letters posted in Brighton in the morning and addressed to an addressee in Brighton are not delivered until the following morning; and whether he will now improve this service.

Mr. Gammans

As in provincial towns generally, the second and final delivery of letters in Brighton now begins in the forenoon. Letters posted in Brighton for delivery in Brighton the same day must be posted for the first collection from the street posting boxes or up to 9.45 a.m. at the head Post Office, 10 a.m. at the sorting office.

Additional facilities could not be provided without additional manpower and expenditure which could not be justified at the present time.
