HC Deb 16 December 1953 vol 522 cc52-3W
34. Mr. G. Longden

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies how many new schools have been opened in the Federation of Malaya during the last two years.

Mr. Lyttelton

Up-to-date figures for new schools are not immediately available, but I will send them to the hon. Member when they are received. The number of children enrolled in schools rose from 674,000 in January, 1951, to 803,992 in January, 1953—an increase of more than 19 per cent.
