HC Deb 10 December 1953 vol 521 cc278-9W
120. Mr. Paget

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what steps the Government of the United States of America have now taken to grant rights to this country reciprocal to those granted to her by the Visiting Forces Act. 1952.

Mr. Nutting

As I informed the hon. Member for Islington, East (Mr. E. Fletcher) on 7th December, the United States ratified the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Status of Forces Agreement on 15th July. Once the Visiting Forces Act has been brought into force in this country, the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation Status of Forces Agreement can be ratified by the United Kingdom. Thereafter full reciprocity will be given as regards treatment as between the armed forces of the two countries.
