§ 121. Mr. Nabarroasked the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation whether, in view of the fact that he cannot, in the interests of productivity, increase the permissive speed of heavy goods vehicles to 30 miles per hour until there is agreement between employers and employees concerned about consequential changes in conditions of employment, and that there is, at present, no recognised machinery for negotiations about such matters between the employers and drivers of the heavy C-licensed vehicles, constituting over half the vehicles affected, he will convene a special conference to bring together representatives of all employers and drivers concerned to agree about the principles to be applied with regard to such consequential changes.
§ Mr. Lennox-BoydI do not believe that the difficulty is due to inadequacy in the negotiating machinery. If, however, I have reason to think my intervention would be helpful, I am always ready to assist, in consultation with the Minister of Labour, in bringing both sides together.
