109. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury how many complaints or protests he has received in respect of the assessment of funds of Old-Age Pension Associations for Income Tax purposes; if he is aware of the resentment felt on this matter by members of those associations; and what action he proposes to take.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

I have received a few such complaints, mostly with respect to Schedule A tax on a branch's premises. Exemption is only given by law in respect of organisations which qualify as charities, and I have written to the hon. Member about the particular case about which he wrote to me.
