HC Deb 16 April 1953 vol 514 c24W
Mr. Hollis

asked the Minister of Labour what sums have been paid in subsidy to the Industrial Hostel, Stratton St. Margaret, near Swindon; and on what principle that subsidy is calculated.

Sir W. Monckton

Industrial hostels are not subsidised individually by my Department. The annual net deficit incurred by the National Service Hostels Corporation on hostels run on behalf of the Ministry of Labour is met by a grant from the Department. In 1952–53 the total grant paid to the Corporation in respect of about 70 hostels amounted to £1,167,000.
