Mr. Albu

asked the President of the Board of Trade to state the policy of Her Majesty's Government concerning the expenditure of counterpart funds derived from United States Economic Aid under Section 9 (c) of the Mutual Security Act, 1952; and what proportion of such funds will be allocated for the development of studies in technological subjects at various universities and technical colleges in Great Britain.

The White Paper (Cmd. 8776) states the policy of Her Majesty's Government in regard to the expenditure of these counterpart funds. A programme for the expenditure of part of the funds for the development of studies in technological subjects is now being worked out.

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many cast-iron enamelled baths were imported during 1952; and how many to the latest convenient date in 1953; and from what countries they were imported.

I regret that cast-iron enamelled baths are not separately recorded in the trade statistics which distinguish only wrought enamelled baths from other kinds made of iron or steel. Our imports under these headings in 1952 and in the period January-February, 1953, were as follows:
