HC Deb 02 April 1953 vol 513 cc164-5W
Mr. Malcolm MacPherson

asked the President of the Board of Trade what regulations must be complied with before imported cast-iron enamelled baths can be offered for sale.

Mr. P. Thorneycroft

The Merchandise Marks (Imported Goods) No. 2 Order, 1928 (Statutory Rules and Orders. 1928, No. 570), prohibits the sale or exposure for sale of any imported cast-iron porcelain-enamelled bath unless it bears an indication of origin. Furthermore, under Section 1 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1926, if the goods bear a name or trade mark of a manufacturer, dealer or trader or the name of any place or district in the United Kingdom, such names or trade mark must be accompanied by an indication of origin.
