asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware of the overcrowding at Clarkston School, Aidrie, due to recent housing developments at Craigneuk; and when further school accommodation for this area can be expected.

My information is that overcrowding is not yet serious. The education authority have submitted proposals for a new school to meet the needs of the new housing area at Craigneuk. These are being discussed with the authority. I cannot forecast when the school will be ready
